Frequently Asked Questions: Where can a celebration of life or memorial service be held?
As a Montreal, Quebec based officiant, I often get asked what an ideal place is for a funeral or memorial service to be held. Traditionally, funerals were held in temples, churches, and other such religious locations, but many people are starting to move towards non-religious funerals and memorials to better honor those who have passed.
If your goal is to have the memorial or funeral service before the burial, the main location is usually the funeral home that you have chosen to care for your loved one. If you plan on having the burial first and then holding a funeral or memorial service, the location is very flexible. Some funeral homes will have rooms or reception areas you can rent to celebrate the life you are honoring. Alternatively, family and friends have also chosen to hold the services in homes, reception halls, parks, or a favorite place of the person who has passed.
It is important to ensure that the location you choose is ideal for the event and that it will allow for the individuals attending to cry, laugh, love and grieve for the person they have lost.
