Frequently Asked Questions: What do you do during a vow renewal ceremony?
As an officiant in Montreal, Quebec, I often get asked what is done during a vow renewal ceremony. Because it is a celebration of love that doesn’t have legal requirements, the schedule or the program is quite flexible. In general, it follows the program of a wedding. Opening words, a welcoming of the family and friends, vows, I do’s, a ring ceremony and closing words are the main elements of a vow renewal ceremony.
A couple could choose to personalize their day just like in a wedding. They can choose to honor family members that are no longer with them, have singing, music, poems, dancing and cultural traditions and rituals. As a wedding officiant, I work with the couples to personalize the vows, I do’s presentation of the couple and the welcoming words. It is important to make the ceremony as unique as possible to ensure that the couple, family, and friends have a wonderful time while taking part in the celebration of love.
