Wedding Officiant - Frequently Asked Questions: Can ceremonies be fun?
As a wedding officiant in Montreal, Quebec, I often get asked if ceremonies can be fun, no matter what the ceremony is. My answer is always simple. YES! But, keeping it tasteful of course.
A ceremony whether it is a memorial, celebration of birth, vow renewal or wedding should reflect the person or people who it is for. If a couple getting married love humor and fun, then the wedding ceremony should include that. When meeting with potential clients, I always say that we are interviewing each other. They are checking to see if I am the right fit for them while I am trying to gauge the type of ceremony that they would like.
Often, when planning memorials, family members are worried that they are being disrespectful by having fun and potentially laughing. A memorial is a celebration of life, and the impact that person had on everyone around them. Always try to think of what would honor them the most and what would have made them most happy.
Any ceremony should have a personal touch included. Don’t be afraid to be creative and think outside the box. Be true to yourselves and use your character and style to make your event as memorable as possible.
